Sana'a – The Yemeni rights organization Journalists Without Chains has revealed that Houthi militias committed more than 312 violations against civilians across nine northern governorates during the months of July and August. 

The report highlights a disturbing pattern of abuse, including arbitrary arrests, enforced disappearances, torture, and restrictions on freedom of expression.

According to the organization’s findings, the violations were concentrated in areas under Houthi control, with Sana’a, Amran, and Hajjah among the most affected. Victims included journalists, activists, educators, and ordinary citizens, many of whom were targeted for expressing dissent or refusing to cooperate with militia directives.

“These figures reflect a systematic campaign to silence voices and intimidate communities,” the organization stated. “The scale and severity of the abuses demand urgent international attention and accountability.”

The report also documented cases of property confiscation, school closures, and interference in humanitarian operations, further exacerbating the suffering of civilians in conflict-affected regions.

Human rights advocates have called on the United Nations and international bodies to investigate the violations and pressure the Houthis to halt their repressive practices. 

The organization emphasized that the continued impunity for such actions undermines prospects for peace and reconciliation in Yemen.
